International PSD Competition in 11 states / Win $1,000 cash or $500 travel stipends


The International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists is pleased to announce an event that is exclusive to public safety divers who are affiliated with recognized public safety dive teams; the International Public Safety Diver Challenge.

All participants are eligible to win a $1,000 cash prize and $500 travel stipends to the International FINALS in Charlotte, NC!

The International Public Safety Diver Challenge has been developed so public safety divers can share information and learn techniques that will improve dive team safety and effectiveness. Eleven sites around the country have been identified for regional challenge events. The top three teams from each regional competition will qualify to compete in the final International Public Safety Diver Challenge scheduled in September 2010.


A cash prize of $1,000.00 (provided by sponsorship from Marine Sonic SONAR Systems and VideoRay) will be paid to the two man team with the fastest equipment assembly and don. The times from all regional competitions and the final competition will be considered and the winner will be announced in Charlotte, NC on the evening of September 23, 2010. In case of a tie score for the $1,000 prize, the money will be divided among the winners.


Three sonar manufacturers, Marine Sonic, Kongsberg, and Edge Tech, have teamed together to provide $500 travel stipends to the final competition in Charlotte for the three regional competing teams with the fastest overall times. More sponsors and more prizes are anticipated in the coming weeks!


Divers competing in the final competition can win prizes including free dive team training from Dive Rescue International, dry suits from Diving Unlimited International and Trelleborg Viking, full face masks, gift certificates, cash prizes and other gear.


The regional challenge events will consist of four timed events; an equipment don, a diver tow/push, an underwater search sweep and an underwater compass course. Note: the compass course may be deleted from some regional competitions due to logistics.


The winning team and two runner-up teams from each region competition will be eligible to compete in the final competition in Charlotte, NC. Conference fees for the International Public Safety Diver Conference will be waived for the winning team from each regional competition. Additionally, the two runner-up teams from each regional competition will have 50% of the International Public Safety Diver Conference fees waived.


At the final challenge in Charlotte, NC the IADRS Watermanship Test skills are added to the competition and points awarded. At all events, points will be awarded based on the completion times for each skill and combination of points will determine winner.
